George Lopez has seen a flurry of activity over the past year including voice roles in animated movies, a new HBO special (“It’s Not Me, It’s You”), a national comedy tour, a 10-episode sitcom deal and his latest book I’m Not Gonna Lie: And Other Lies You Tell When You Turn 50. Lopez’s new sitcom Saint George premieres this month on FX and marks the comedian’s return to sitcoms since his ABC series ended in 2007. He plays a newly divorced Mexican-American dad struggling to balance his 11-year-old son, his ex-wife, his doting mother and a part-time teaching gig at a night school.
Named one of the 25 Most Influential Hispanics in America by Time Magazine, Lopez’s massive career encompasses a wide spectrum – television, film, standup comedy and late-night television. For two seasons, he hosted Lopez Tonight, a late-night television talk show on TBS. He co-created, wrote, produced and starred in Warner Bros. Television’s groundbreaking hit sitcom George Lopez, which ran for six seasons on ABC. George Lopez remains a hit with viewers in syndication on both broadcast stations and cable’s Nick at Nite. Lopez voiced last year’s animated characters Grouchy Smurf in Smurfs 2, and Thurman in Escape From Planet Earth. Other film credits include the box-office hit Valentine’s Day, directed by Garry Marshall; the voice of Rafael in the animated blockbuster Rio; Beverly Hills Chihuahua; Swing Vote; Henry Poole Is Here; and Balls of Fury. Lopez is known for his HBO Comedy Specials including the Grammy nominated Tall, Dark and Chicano and America’s Mexican, as well as his acclaimed comedy concert on Showtime, Why You Crying? In May 2004, his autobiography of the same name entered The New York Times Bestsellers Top 20.
