From his first hit, the rocking “Memphis” in 1664, to his biggest ballad “Poor Side of Town,” to the legendary “Secret Agent Man” and other chart topping hits, Johnny Rivers’ songs remain timeless. Born Henry Ramistella on November 7, 1942 in New York City, Rivers first emerged in the mid-sixties at the popular Whiskey A-Go-Go club in L.A. It was there that he created a tour de force that helped to break down the wall between pop and folk music. With recordings like “Where Have All The Flowers Gone,” “Midnight Special” and “Summer Rain” he did what it took The Byrds five people to do; bring folk-rock to the musical stages of L.A. during the social phenomenon known as the summer of love. Since then the “Secret Agent Man” has racked up 17 gold records, 29 chart hits, two Grammy awards, and sold more than 30 million records. Secret Agent Man: The Ultimate Johnny Rivers Anthology: 1964-2006 (2-CDs) entered the Collector's Choice Music chart at #1 two months prior to the national distribution release date in 2006.

His new release, Shadows of the Moon, brings Rivers to a place of textured folk/acoustic, world music, melodic jazz strains and straightforward lyric driven songs. With a still youthful and assured quality in his voice, he provides the musical avenue through a set of well-crafted songs uncommon to mainstream records today. There is a clear and soulful mandolin, played by Rivers himself, as well as bass fiddles, steel guitars, dobro and drums which lay levels and texture of pure acoustic music. As well-crafted as the music is, Shadows on the Moon is matched by strong material from songwriters like Michael Georgiades, Jack Tempchin and Jimmy Webb.
